Sorry Mouse, You Got Rebranded

august 26, 2026

You have to do the thing before you understand the thing. And that is a hard thing, because you end up holding on too tight to what you think the thing was in the first place….

We decided to rebrand Mouse Whisperer to Snapshot CRO. The original name was a reference to a 30 year old Robert Redford movie, The Horse Whisperer. I thought it was clever…. but rule #1 in copywriting = it is better to be clear than to be clever.

I realized this after I introduced this to 3 different people. One in marketing. One in ecommerce. One in media. They didn’t get the reference. And it was confusing. And starting the convo out with a confusing point that you have to gloss over and move on (because what else are you gonna do?) is not a great way to show something that you’ve been working on.

“Snapshot” is the actual name we give to CRO audits within the app…. which makes much more sense. I tacked on CRO because it is listed in the Shopify app store, and you have to play the keyword game over there.

So it is rebranded. I reached out the Shopify app review team to see about changing the URL to reflect the new name, but crickets so far. I think they are slammed with 87,923 new AI apps…. I wonder if this app got approved so fast because they saw it and were like “finally, one without AI!!”

Anyway, name changed. That is that.

Operation Toejam

I announced this a couple weeks ago, but then we stubbed our toe. Like ouchie what is that motherf***ing coffee table doing there stub.

No reason to get into the details of it, but there were interna things that put the kibosh on a lot of the progress and momentum that we were building. I was even ready to launch a completely rebuilt theme that was built around a long-term marketing strategy, but then the toe-stub happened and I ended up just applying some of the new styling to the old theme…. LAME.

Anyway, no jam. That is that.

So now I am writing this to sort of wrap up what I had written about in the Mouse Whisperer 30 Days of CRO. I plan on continuing to write, and it will still be dorky ecommerce and CRO stuff, but however I frame it will be different.

I just talked to Vic, the developer/magician, and some of the new changes on Mou… I mean, Snapshot… are about to go live. And it’s dope as shit.

The main update is that Snapshots will be split into 3 types:

Type 1 - Store Snapshots. Same as before. It tests where you visitors are going so you know which pages to focus your CRO efforts on.

Tpye 2 - Page Snapsots. Same as before. It tests what visitors are doing on a page (behavioral analytics) so you know what to test.

Type 3 - Channel Snapshots. This is the new one. It tests visitor from whatever source you want, to isolate their behavior. Like if you are running ads on Instagram you can see what visitors who clicked on those ads do once they land (or hone it down to visitors from a single ad or ad group).

This new Snapshot is great because know one likes wasting money on ads, and no one is better at wasting your money on ads than Mark Fuckerberg & Co.

I sound salty. I haven’t eaten breakfast. I need coffee. Why the hell am I writing this right now. I should go now.

That is that.
