How marketing goes beyond your marketing…
A couple hours after we recorded this episode, Courtney sent me and email to let me know that my wife can give her a call if she has any questions about the Farmstand and to share a referral code.
This is brilliant marketing for Lettuce Grow.
However, it is not something in their control. They don’t even know about this podcast (yet).
I told Courtney that my wife wants to get one later this year. And she was more than happy to help someone get into home gardening exactly as she got into it through a friend.
Marketing is not entirely controlled by a marketing team. They can’t ask Courtney to give me a referral code. They don’t even know that it was at a birthday party where Courtney was “converted” from an shopper to a customer.
What they can do is create the tools for happy customers to share. Like a referral program. They can create a community where people can exchange ideas. To learn from and give back to.
Courtney admits that Lettuce Grow’s marketing, specifically on Instagram, works for her. She likes it. It got her interested.
But in the end, it was the great customer experience her friend had with the company that led to a conversation that won Lettuce Grow a new customer.
…and again, another customer when my wife buys hers.
